How To Pay The Medical Bills After Settlement

As I have previously discussed, medical providers set their own prices for the services they provide with the expectation that the total amount billed will be negotiated down. Additionally, before releasing funds to you, most defendants will require you to certify that all medical liens are satisfied.

What that means in practice is that you have reached a settlement agreement without actually knowing how much you will be paying in medical bills. This can be a terrifying position to be in. However, most providers are reasonable in negotiating what they will accept when satisfying their medical bills.

However, there are very rare circumstances when a medical provider will not negotiate their rates down at all, when this happens—depending on the circumstances—you may have to enter into a fee dispute with them.
